Evil Carrots....

What? You didn't know that carrots were evil? Well, we have verified it. Last night we tried to reintroduce them into MeLissa's diet and man was that a mistake.

The first sign that there was probably a problem should have been that when MeLissa tried them alone, they didn't taste nearly as good as she remembers them tasting. We later determined, though that it was because we didn't have onions cooking with them in the roast pot. So, she persisted, ate a few more with dinner and went about the rest of the evening's activities (which included finishing the stitching on the blankie, though, we're now at the point of yarn weaving which always seems to take much too long!).

About 2 hours after dinner, MeLissa all of the sudden started experiencing the following:

  • very scratchy throat
  • very scratchy nose
  • very scratchy ears (inside)

Shortly thereafter, she began having trouble breathing (her first asthma attack for a couple of months!) and developed a killer headache (which, incidentally is still with her this morning - doh!). So, we think it's pretty safe to say that carrots will be added to the long list (potatoes, tomatoes, avocados) of foods tha we tried to add back in and that just didn't want to cooperate. We're debating whether pineapple or green pepper will be the next lucky food...

In other news, while looking at quilting sites of all things (found some great resources for free patterns, friends - if you're interested, shoot us an email), MeLissa came across a site which is the polar opposite of every other e-greeting site you have seen. We think we'll call it the "Anti-greeting" site. Here, you can send "Resentiments" to those who've broken your heart, been lousy friends, etc. We will warn you that many of the cards use less than sophisticated language, but they were kind of funny so we figured we'd pass them along. Please don't send them to us. :)

Oh my!!! Those carrots do sound terribly evil....how dare they cause an asthma attack!!

I hope your migraine has gone away...that is never fun.

Thanks for all your recent feedback--I really appreciate it. I'm a very new quilter and the first (and only) quilt I made was one that had all the needed material packaged together and wasn't a traditional looking quilt (patterns and all that). But, I do want to keep trying and work my way up to the fancy stuff, so any tips are most welcome!! =)

    Have a great day!!

Thank you both for your feedback!
I apologize for not answering it in a timely fashion. For some reason, bad ol' Blogger is not sending me notification emails and I never remember to check myself!. It must be in cahoots with the carrots. LOL. If you ever leave a comment and don't hear from me shoot me an email using the link in our profile. :)

At any rate, I'm doing much better now (we should hope, right?) Of course, today I discovered that pineapple is also playing difficult..thankfully, though it is less evil than carrots. :)

bbc - maybe you can just tell your daughter you're allergic to carrots! Or, as an alternative, have you tried combining carrot juice and orange juice? There is a juice manufacturer over here that makes a blend similar to that and (as I remember back in the day when I *liked* carrots or at least tolerated them) it was pretty tasty!

Erin- I totally wish we lived closer, too! It's too bad all we Nesties can't just wiggle our noses and be where ever we want - I know Brittny, especially, would love this (if for no other reason than not worrying about Layla)!! :)

Anyhow, I'm a pretty new quilter myself...if you look back through old posts here, you can see the blocks I've finished to date. Those triangles were E-V-I-L.

And, you should totally check out this quilting site
I found. They have free instructions, a few free patterns and if you sign up as a member for $15/per, you can get a few more patterns and sign up for the quilting class they offer (free with membership!). I think the class starts on April 5 and I plan to be in it! :)
